Northrim Bank and its employees donate over $785,000 during 2020

As we close 2020 and look forward to 2021, the 335 employees at Northrim Bank reflect on their contributions made during the past year. As a local, community bank, Northrim takes its commitments to Alaska very seriously. Throughout 2020, Northrim was proud to be able to provide for its local communities with charitable contributions to support Alaska.

This year, the Bank not only continued its traditional contributions, but also saw the need to help those who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spring and summer, Northrim contributed to The Foraker Group, Providence Alaska Foundation, and the AK Can Do fund to support the work being done to help the most vulnerable in our communities.

With an understanding that life looked different for many, Northrim employees showed their generous spirit. Employees participated in the annual United Way Campaign and raised $140,000 in support of local communities throughout Alaska and in Washington State. This total includes direct donations from employees and Northrim’s fifty percent match for employee gifts to United Way.

Bank employees continued their volunteer work in their local communities. Volunteering required extra precautions and safety measures this year, but Northrim employees continued to give generously of their time. “Our employees demonstrated their generosity and team-work with their support of many organizations throughout the year,” noted Joe Schierhorn, Chairman, President and CEO. During 2020, Northrim employees volunteered over 850 hours in their local communities.

In addition to the generosity by employees, Northrim Bank also contributes a substantial amount to support Alaska organizations. Each year, Northrim Bank focuses its corporate giving on organizations that help in community and economic development, programs to strengthen low income families, and higher education. During 2020, Northrim Bank contributed just over $645,000 to organizations throughout Alaska.

For 2021, bank employees, the Board of Directors, and executive leadership will continue to share with the communities throughout Alaska. The Bank will also continue to find new ways to engage and connect with people throughout the community. Northrim’s Proud to be Alaskan values are based on strongly supporting its communities and a genuine appreciation for its customers and neighbors. This will continue well into the future.
